Privacy Policy

What we collect when you visit this site or contact us, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

Effective October 29, 2026 · Disclaimer · Terms of Use · Accessibility Statement

Effective date: 2026-10-29. This Privacy Policy explains how Eric M. Willie, P.C. (the "Firm," "we," or "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit williedasherlaw.net (the "Site") or contact us by phone, text message, email, chat, or web form. It applies to visitors and prospective clients. Information we receive from clients during a representation is additionally protected by the attorney-client privilege, the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct, and our engagement agreement.

The short version

  • We collect what you give us when you reach out, plus ordinary website analytics.
  • We use it to respond to you, check for conflicts, and run and improve the Site.
  • We never sell your information and never share it with anyone for their own marketing.
  • Family law inquiries are sensitive. We treat what prospective clients tell us as confidential, and this page explains how to contact us safely if someone monitors your devices.
  • You can ask us to correct or delete your information at any time by emailing ewillie@williedasherlaw.com or calling (512) 478-0834.

Information we collect

Information you give us. When you call, text, email, use the chat, or submit a form, we collect what you provide: typically your name, phone number, email address, the type of legal matter, and a short description of your situation. The description may include information about your spouse or partner, your children, your finances, your health, or family violence. We ask that you keep it brief until we have confirmed in writing that the Firm represents you.

Information about other people. Family law inquiries often name other people, including minor children and an opposing party. We use that information only to check for conflicts of interest and to understand your matter. We do not contact those people, and we do not use their information for any other purpose.

Call records and call recording. Our phone numbers are routed through a call-tracking service so we know which advertising brought a caller to us. The service logs the caller's number, the time and length of the call, and the source of the call. Calls to the Firm may be recorded for quality and training purposes. Texas permits recording with the consent of one party to the call; even so, where a call is recorded you will hear a notice at the start. If you prefer not to be recorded, say so and we will continue without recording, or you may email us instead.

Chat. The chat window on the Site is an automated assistant, not a person and not a lawyer. It answers from a fixed set of general responses and can take your name and phone number so that we can call you back. If you provide a phone number, the conversation is sent to the Firm as part of your inquiry and handled like a web form.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the Site records technical data about your visit: IP address, approximate location derived from it, browser and device type, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and the date and time of your visit. We use cookies and similar technologies to do this (see Cookies, analytics, and advertising).

What we do not collect. The Site does not ask for government ID numbers, bank or card numbers, or passwords. Please do not send them to us by form, chat, email, or text.

How we use information

  • To respond to your inquiry, check for conflicts of interest, and schedule a consultation.
  • To communicate with you about your matter if you become a client.
  • To operate, secure, and improve the Site and understand which pages and advertisements are useful.
  • To comply with legal and professional obligations, including conflict-checking and record-keeping rules.

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing, and we do not use it to make automated decisions that have legal effects on you.

Prospective clients

Contacting us does not make you a client, but it does make you a prospective client. Under Texas Disciplinary Rule of Professional Conduct 1.18, information a prospective client shares in good faith while considering hiring a lawyer is treated as confidential even if no representation follows, and we will not use it to your disadvantage. We may still be required to decline your matter if it conflicts with an existing client; in that case we tell you promptly and do not keep more than the record needed to document the conflict check.

Safety if someone monitors your devices

If you are dealing with family violence, stalking, or a controlling partner, assume that a shared phone, computer, or family plan can be monitored. Browsing history, call logs, text messages, and email can all be seen by someone with access to the device or the account. Safer options: call from a phone the other person cannot access, use a trusted friend's device, or use a public library computer. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233 (text START to 88788). Our protective order page explains the legal options.

Text messages

If you provide a mobile number and ask us to contact you, we may text you about scheduling, reminders, and your inquiry. We do not send marketing text messages. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for help. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of hiring the Firm. Mobile numbers and text-messaging consent are never shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes.

Email

If you give us your email address we use it to respond to you and, if you become a client, to communicate about your matter. If we ever send informational emails about Texas family law, each one will include an unsubscribe link, and opting out will not affect communications about an active matter.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

The Site uses Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to measure traffic, a call-tracking script (CallRail) to show the phone number tied to the advertisement you arrived from, and may use advertising tags from Google and Meta (Facebook) to measure the results of our advertising and to show our ads to people who have visited the Site. These tools set cookies and may collect your IP address and a device or browser identifier. You can limit this by:

  • Adjusting your browser's cookie settings or using a private browsing mode;
  • Installing the Google Analytics opt-out add-on;
  • Managing ad personalization in your Google and Meta account settings;
  • Turning on the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in a browser that supports it. We treat a GPC signal as a request to opt out of targeted advertising for that browser.

Blocking cookies will not prevent the Site from working. Apart from GPC, the Site does not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, because there is no industry standard for them.

Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the Firm and the Site, under contracts that limit them to performing services for us: our website host, call-tracking and telephone provider, text-messaging provider, client-intake and scheduling software, email provider, document and case-management software, and analytics providers. We may also disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order, when the Texas Disciplinary Rules permit or require it, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of the Firm, our clients, or others. If the Firm is ever merged or sold, client and prospective-client records transfer with the practice under the rules that govern the sale of a law practice.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections to the Site, access controls on our systems, and staff who are trained on confidentiality. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and email and web forms are not a secure channel for confidential documents; we will give you a secure way to send documents once you are a client. If a breach of system security affects your sensitive personal information, we will notify you as Texas law requires.

How long we keep information

  • Inquiries that do not become a representation: the contact details and matter type needed for conflict checks are kept for the life of the Firm's conflict database; the description of your situation and any chat transcript are deleted or anonymized within 24 months.
  • Client files: kept for the period required by the Texas Disciplinary Rules and our engagement agreement, then destroyed securely.
  • Call recordings: kept for up to 12 months unless they become part of a client file.
  • Website analytics: Google Analytics data is retained on the default setting of 14 months.

Your choices and rights

You may ask us at any time to see, correct, update, or delete the contact information you have given us, to receive a copy of it, or to stop contacting you, by emailing ewillie@williedasherlaw.com or calling (512) 478-0834. We will confirm your identity, respond within 45 days, and honor the request except where we must keep records to comply with law, court rules, or professional obligations. We will never treat you differently for making a request. If we decline a request, we will say why, and you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our response. These commitments apply to everyone who contacts us; Texas residents may have additional rights under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, and residents of other states may have rights under their own state's law, which we will honor to the extent they apply.

Children

The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Parents and guardians who contact us about a custody, support, or adoption matter may share information about their children, which we use only for that matter. If you believe a child has provided information to us through the Site, contact us and we will delete it.

Visitors outside the United States

The Firm practices law in Texas and its systems are located in the United States. If you contact us from outside the United States, your information will be processed here.

Links to other sites

The Site links to third-party websites, including courts, state agencies, and review platforms. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed, and material changes will be noted on this page for 30 days. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
